John Joseph is a musician, producer, DJ, songwriter and performer. A jack of all trades who excels purely from his unrelenting work ethic. With his robust social media presence he works it like a tool to advance his career as an Artist. He consistently releases recordings of himself producing beats, engaging with his followers, answering questions about the industry, or just talking music in general. He understands his audience and knows that if they’re watching they will be looking for certain content from him. He fills your timeline with his best work. An important tactic for artists who, more than ever, are judged not only by their music but how they live their lives. During this pandemic, while everyone is at home, you’re either watching Tierra Whack post freestyles and skits in the same outfit, or Freddie Gibbs on live with some random stripper, Joseph hopes his posts are a welcomed distraction and a reminder of good music and production.

SoundCloud Rappers

The truth is that everyone’s making music right now. It drives me insane because often it seems that everybody with free time is trying to be a beatmaker. Platforms like SoundCloud make it easy to borrow/steal and post it as if it’s your creation. It’s become a monotonous trend. People post the first beat they ever made in an attempt to get online buzz.

But, Joseph is different. He is meticulous about his social media presence. Spend any time on his page and you can tell that the content he cultivates is specifically crafted for his audience. With the help of his videographer and friend, they do great work together and will continue their collaborations.

Currently

When I sat down to talk to Joseph, it came as no surprise to hear about his successes in the industry. After moving to Arizona, he landed a deal with London on da Track and got songwriting credit on Summer Walker’s first studio album, “Over it”. This gave him tremendous insight to how the real industry functions and the space to meet many other working artists. For now, he’s back in St. Louis to continue his work while also helping to develop and progress other artist’s music. When the pandemic is controlled and the world opens up again, I will be there to see him and other artists in person, sharing a common interest with the audience as we get back to our new normal.
